A basic research model designed and manufactured for the low speed wind tunnel (13 x 9 ) at DERA at Bedford. The essential element in the models construction was its weight. This was defined at being no greater than 1 kg. |

| To achieve this the model was built with a core of foam that was covered by carbon fibre sheeting. The fins were manufactured using "HEXALON" and the leading edges from a form of model board. | ![]() |
THE VIEWS SHOW THE
BASIC SHAPE OF THE MODEL. IN ITS STANDARD "HEXALON
CONFIGURATION. THE LOWER VIEW SHOWS THE NOSE AND STING UNIT. THIS MODEL AS WITH OTHERS IS FUNCTIONAL. |
| The fins are designed
to fit in four positions, and have to be rigid in all
settings. There were three sets of leading edges each with differing plan view and cross sectional shapes. A difficult process in the manufacture was the swapping of the port for the starboard edge. Accuracy was of prime importance to maintain the smooth interaction between the main body and the edges. |
