The model is shown assembled in the "ETW" CRYOGENIC wind tunnel. As you can see it is a large half model manufactured for use with the tunnels new half balance.

Although we had had little experience with "CRYOGENIC" model manufacture we soon understood the requirements and working as a team with "ETW" designed and manufactured the model.

Great care had to be taken with the finish of the surface as scratches and indentations in the surface could result in ice buildups and testing failures. We also established a (NO EXTERNAL FASTENERS) policy, once again removing the cause of ice buildups.

The model is manufactured from stainless steel and is made in three sections. The wing, the fuselage and the plinth. The intersection between the fuselage and the plinth was extremely difficult as the model had to have a castleation built to lessen the amount of air flowing within the fuselage.
